Easiest way to save time when you take trains in Tokyo

If you stay in Tokyo more than 2 days, I strongly recommend you to get IC card.

You can charge money to the IC card and use it almost every time you take trains and metros. It is very easy. You just touch it when you go through a ticket gate. You can check the balance in a screen at the gate.

You can save time because you do not need to check stations and how much it takes and line up for getting tickets.

The most reccomended IC card you can get in Tokyo is "Pasmo" .

Even in Nagoya, Osaka, Kyoto, and some other areas, you can often use the card (some train companies do not accept so please check details on the website or just try touching and see if it works)

Where : in major Metro stations

How to get : at Ticket Vending Machines (for kids, you need to go to office with your passport)

Price: deposit is 500 yen

Charge: 1000 yen - 10,000 yen

Refund fee: FREE  (if you use Suica IC card from JR, you need some refund fee at some conditions)

In addition to trains, you can also use it at some Convenience stores, coin lockers, and drink vending machines!

Atsuko is charming and knows Tokyo as a local. The highlight for me was walking through the former gardens of an imperial palace and seeing modern Tokyo in the background at every direction.

Michiko is very easy to be with and an excellent interpreter. She guided us on a 1/2 day Tour of Tokyo and even gave us important information on how to use the complicated Train system. The most important event for me was meeting my Japanese family, who do not speak English. She interpreted effortlessly and the day went without a glitch. I would highly recommend Michiko for Tokyo tours and an...

We had decided we needed a guide to assist us with traversing the trains system and finding interesting places without getting lost! Keiko really knew the history of the areas we visited. We had a list of must sees and some places Keiko hadn’t seen before ( Nissan Crossing for getting a coffee with your face printed on it!) She was the most polite and lovely lady. It was definitely an amazing thre...

We had a great day exploring Ueno, Akhibara and Tsjuki outer market with Mitsuru. Our whole family appreciated his kind and patient manner and insight into Tokyo. Mitsuru had so many great suggestions and came organised with maps and an overview of Japanese history. Our daughter was not feeling so well and he made adjustments to make sure she was comfortable. Thank you Mitsuru for a great day!

1 day ago Traveler: Jan -   Tour Guide: AKIRA

We decided us for a guided tour at our arrival day in Tokyo to beat the jetlag after a 12 hour long haul overnight flight from Europe. To prepare the tour we wrote a very detailed message with our expectations. Unfortunately the suggested iternaty didn‘t meet our expectations, so we did a lot of research about Tokyo on our own. In the end this was the best excercise to get ready for the city, but...

Masa did a great job. We chose the walking/public transportation tour of the Imperial Palace and the Asakusa Buddhist Temple and neighboring Shinto temple. We gained great insight into Japanese culture, the Tokyo subway system (an intricate, spotless, efficient people mover) and Japanese history which we learned wh...

We really enjoyed our two days in Tokyo with Mitsuru. To begin with.....prior to arrival, I loved how we communicated through the TripleLights website. It was so easy and Mitsuru always responded within a number of hours. Considering the time difference, that was great! He asked lots of questions about us to try to learn about my husband and me before we met and what we would be interested in. Th...
