Daruma, だるま

by Masaki

Daruma, a traditional folk craft, is a doll with no arms and legs, and eyes.

Originally, Daruma is a founder of Zen Buddhism. The legend says that the founder had practiced zazen and meditation for 9 years, causing his legs and arms  to disappear.

Daruma, だるま

Daruma is a round doll. If it is pushed over, it quickly returns to the upright position.

For this reason, daruma is regarded as a symbol of perseverance.

Daruma is often used when people wish for something.

They paint one eye in black, wishing for the realization of their dream.

When it comes true, they paint the other eye in black.

Takasaki in Gunma prefecture is famous for daruma production, and there is Daruma Temple.

It accounts for 80% production of Japan.

Welcome to my homepage.
For me, meeting with people is a gift from God.
A new encounter inspires me and enriches my heart.
People sometimes ask me unexpected questions I can't answer on the spot.
New encounters are, in a sense, a kind of continuation of embarrassment and bewilderment.
As a tour guide, going around with people is like an adventurous journey.
Those who I met stay in my heart with good memories. But I also would like to stay in your heart.
Yes, every encounter, solo or group, is a glow of jewels.
I taught at senior high school. Good teachers are not always a good scholar, one time a comedian, another time a hero, like a spiderman.
I'm an expert in history, culture, and religion.
Why is Japan so mysterious?
My tour is full of smile, humor, laughter, and lectures.
I'm also a lover of music and a chi exercise instructor.
Why don't you try chi exercise with me? read more
