Let’s buy and use IC Card; SUICA for public transportation!
I always suggest that my customer buy and use SUICA; IC card when I show them around sightseeing destinations in Tokyo and its vicinities. (Picture: Tokyo Station)
SUICA is very convenient and easy to change trains
The IC card will relieve you of buying a ticket at each railroad/subway station and ensure smooth train changes in the greater Tokyo where JR, subway systems, private railroad networks are complicatedly extended. The IC cards for children under 11 years can be purchased at “Ticketing & Travel Center” by showing the passport at each JR station.
Choose proper SUICA depending on how long you travel
Its selling prices range from 1000 yen to 10,000 yen. Each SUICA contains 500-yen deposit, and when the card is returned, the deposit of 500 yen is returned along with any remaining amount. Otherwise you just keep it as souvenir or use when you come back to Japan again. While SUICA is issued by JR Railway, PASMO is another IC card, issued by subway/private railroad companies and both are workable to any type of public transportation system including bus services.
SUICA can be used to buy mineral water, hot coffee
As e-money, these IC cards can be used to buy natural water, hot coffee, and other soft drink, some snacks in the vending machine or at KIOSK.
SUICA can be used on public transportation in Kyoto as well
When you visit Kyoto and Osaka, SUICA and PASMO can be used on the public transportation there.
