Boo! Experience Japanese Halloween and Dress Up!

by Mieke

Halloween in Japan...?

Of course not a traditionally Japanese festival, but who cares! In the big cities they go crazy with Halloween nonetheless. Though there’s not ‘trick or treat’ element, many clubs and bars hold special Halloween nights.

Where's the party at?

During Halloween, many clubs and bars hold their own Halloween nights with a special line up, Halloween-themed drinks, and of course, over-the-top decorations. But one need not even enter a bar to enjoy the show: just walk on the street (especially the Shibuya and Shinjuku areas) and you’ll be treated to the wildest of costumes! Coming from Europe myself, I was quite surprised by the amount of work people put in their costumes. Especially Shibuya (known for the famous 'Scramble crossing') swarms with monsters, killers, escaped prisoners and what not on the 31st of October. Do you dare to join them?

I contacted Yasu only a couple of days before I visited Fukuoka, and in rapid correspondence he agreed not only to suggest solo activities for my very brief visit but also agreed to meet me the next day in Nagasaki. This involved a considerable round-trip train journey on his part. He met me on time; he had the day all planned out; and we saw and did much more - and at a much better price - than ...

At the Blue dragon statue at the entrance to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Kenzi-san showed us a graphic of key areas around the temple and eras of Japan history. We learned so much from him and he guided us to a bit hard to find areas and lanes, winding down to Gion. We started early in the day and we were just so happy to be guided by Kenzi -san and he listened to our requirements. We heard the diff...

It was such a pleasure to be guided by Akira for 3 days in Tokyo. We are 4 senior citizens who wanted to experience as many of the wonderful sights as possible in our limited time. Akira expertly took us through the extensive subway system zipping around town always finding elevators and escalators to spare our vintage knees. We wanted to sample Japanese cuisine and Akira knew the best places for...

Yuka created our perfect day in Tokyo. She led my daughter (aged 14) and I around so many sights and was informative and interesting - we did not want the day to end. She made the the sites memorable and it was the highlight of our trip. And while we moved at our own pace, we saw so many things. She also helped us feel comfortable taking the subway. We have used guides in many cities and Yuka...

Masato was an amazing guide for our first day in Japan and Tokyo! We were traveling with our infant and needed an overview of the city and subway and introduction to Japanese food - Masato was perfect.
