Boo! Experience Japanese Halloween and Dress Up!

by Mieke - TripleLights travel specialist

Halloween in Japan...?

Of course not a traditionally Japanese festival, but who cares! In the big cities they go crazy with Halloween nonetheless. Though there’s not ‘trick or treat’ element, many clubs and bars hold special Halloween nights.

Where's the party at?

During Halloween, many clubs and bars hold their own Halloween nights with a special line up, Halloween-themed drinks, and of course, over-the-top decorations. But one need not even enter a bar to enjoy the show: just walk on the street (especially the Shibuya and Shinjuku areas) and you’ll be treated to the wildest of costumes! Coming from Europe myself, I was quite surprised by the amount of work people put in their costumes. Especially Shibuya (known for the famous 'Scramble crossing') swarms with monsters, killers, escaped prisoners and what not on the 31st of October. Do you dare to join them?

1 hour ago Traveler: Denver -   Tour Guide: Koichiro

We spent 2 days with Koichiro on a food lovers adventure. We had a few off the beaten paths requests and Koichiro by far exceeded our expectations. The planning of the trip and welcoming nature of Koichiro made our first trip to Tokyo feel like we had a friend in town to show us around. Koji has wonderful communications skills and takes great care for all of your needs and requests.

Tak could not have packed more information and sights into our day. He provides answers to every question and interjects much into the history of the Kamakura area. He is extremely personal and very energetic but carefully watched to make sure the pace he was setting was the correct one. He provided detailed information on the transportation from our hotel in Tokyo to the meeting place in Kita-K...

“ A foggy day in Fuji ”

12 hours ago Traveler: Lew -   Tour Guide: MOTOYUKI

We had an excellent day in the Fuji area of Japan with Motoyuki. He was very friendly and informative. We visited the 5th Station on Mount Fuji and went for a walk beneath the slopes. Unfortunately due to the ever-present Fuji clouds, we didn't get a great view of the mountain, but it was very atmospheric and almost haunting. From there we had an authentic Japanese-style lunch - we tried a number ...

18 hours ago Traveler: Richard -   Tour Guide: Junko

Prior to arriving in Tokyo we had discussed, by email, a plan for the day. We were not overly interested in 'sightseeing' but instead wished to visit some interesting neighbourhoods. We suggested the Kagurazaka area and Junko recommended we should also explore the Yanesen district near the Yanaka Cemetery. It was a thoroughly interesting day. As first-timers to Japan, Junko was able to explain man...

“ Fantastic! ”

18 hours ago Traveler: Brad -   Tour Guide: Ikumi

Ikumi is fantastic, met us at our hotel and guided us through the complex rail/subway system with ease. We enjoyed the tour of the Osaka castle and grounds, the Osaka Museum of Housing and Living, but just walking through the street vending and shops with Ikumi was excellent. Her knowledge of the local area was superb, and I loved all the great food.
