There is a statue of Basho Matsuo, a famous Japanese poet in Edo period.

Rissaku-ji temple is famous for the Japanese poem in Edo period by Basho Matsuo meaning "We find silence in the sound of cicatas penetrating into the rocks in mid summer".

 Autumn excursion to Risshaku-ji temple

We visited this temple on Oct. 20th, 2016. We had to climb a steap slope with many steps for 30 min to reach the main part of the temple.

Autumn excursion to Risshaku-ji temple

This temple was built  in 860  by  a Buddhist priest Jikaku who was asked by  the Emperor Seiwa. There are many ruins of ascetic practice on the rocky mountan slope where Buddhist preists kept praying for their enlightenmrnt.

The famous view near the observatory

There is an observatory deck near the top of the mountain with good view of the scenery as well as the many ruins of ascetic practice.

This temple is located in Yamagata prefecture as shown in the following map. There is a JR station "Yamadera" near by and it takes about three hours from Tokyo.https://triplelights.com/profile/425

We had a great tour with Yuki. He is knowledgeable and thoughtful in how he conducted the tour. We were traveling with our 8 year old daughter and 10month old son and Yuki was considerate of their needs as well. We felt confident touring Kyoto and Lake Kawaguchi without having to worry about the language barrier and/or navigating the public transport system and could focus on enjoying the sights.

My 11 year old son and I began our trip in Tokyo with Yuki-san. We started the day taking the shinkansen out of Shinagawa Station and taking the local train once in Kyoto to the Fushimi Shrine. We did the Miyabi Tour. We followed the course and had lunch at a delicious tonkatsu restaurant that Yuki-san found for us because of my picky 11 year old eater. The most memorable site for us was t...

Yuki is a thoughtful and intelligent guide, who has the ability to portray the information without too much chatter. Yuki has a lovely subtle humour and gives honest answers to the many questions asked of him. Yuki took us to the Meiji Shrine, Asakusa and Tsukiji fish markets, whilst familiarising us with the rail system and general layout of Tokyo. A day we’ll spent. Thank you, Yuki.
