Ads Everywhere in Japan

If there is one thing noticeable in Japan, it is that it's covered up in advertisements, most especially print ads. Seeing ads inside trains, buses, and malls are nothing special. But seeing the huge amount of print advertisements in these places is what made it extra-ordinary.

But wait! If you thought these ads are just found in buses and trains, then you are wrong. Taxis also have huge boards inside them that more or less advertise a certain thing. Billboards, elevators, escalators, a flight of stairs, rental bicycles, vending machines, give-away pocket tissue papers, pavements, subways... name it, it has an ad on it. You will also encounter an area particularly in subways where magazines and other reading materials are free for grabs. We call this "free papers" and they are available mostly in public places such as train stations.

Hiroshi extensively prepared for our trip, visiting our hotel in advance to time the walk from the lobby to the correct train platform. Trains were well coordinated with minimal wait time. The order of sites visited made for an efficient use of our time. Hiroshi was very knowledgeable about the temples and shrines we visited and spoke excellent English. He also suggested some places we should ...

“ An unusual, beautiful day touring Naoshima ”

Naoshima was a lovely day-trip destination from our port in Takamatsu. Our guide, Aki, arranged for a high speed boat for our 6-member group to travel to and from the island, which was a bracing trip and a great way to go (faster and less crowded than the ferry). We had a lovely day looking at modern art on the island, including the spectacular and very unusual Chichu art museum. Aki was very p...

Yukiko was one of the best guides we've encountered. Not only did she know the city and restaurants and shops well, she was super organized and helpful. She worked with us before the tour to get an idea of what we liked to do. She made suggestions and tweaked and tweaked the agenda until we were happy. Then on the day we met, she had already printouts, Powerpoint slides to explain us the his...

Junko was our tour guide on our first day in Tokyo. She was wonderful! Exactly on time, very accommodating (the weather was bad today and we had to make some quick itinerary changes). She was extremely knowledgeable about the city, its history, how best to navigate and travel, among countless other things. We had a great time with her and would happily request her services on future trips to the c...

Junichiro was an excellent guide and accommodated our love of walking to show us the best of Hakone. We had a great day and got a perfect view of Mt Fuji, a Japanese tea ceremony and we used all the modes of transport available in the area. Junichiro was also able to solve some of our accommodation problems, luggage forwarding and he also recommended a great place for dinner. A great experience. W...
